On the second day of training camp, two more Saints go down with injuries. New Orleans Saints DE Trajan Jeffcoat and G Shane Lemieux both went down with injuries today in the second practice of training camp.
Saints coach Dennis Allen said DE Trajan Jeffcoat suffered an elbow injury. Guard Shane Lemieux also suffered an ankle injury. No updates on severity yet.— Mike Triplett (@MikeTriplett) July 25, 2024
After injuring his elbow, Trajan Jeffcoat was said to be in tons of pain, resulting in him staying on the ground for an extended period of time and eventually taking the cart back to the locker room. The UDFA pass rusher has had an impressive offseason, and with the preseason approaching and the Saints needing some more production from the D-Line, Jeffcoat could make the most of his opportunity and earn himself a role in the edge rotation.

And why he should be full steam ahead... After tweaking his shoulder during mini-camp, New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave was a full-participant on the first day of training camp, per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football. Previously, the wide receiver has been in a red, non-contact jersey.
With the departure of Michael Thomas, this will be Olave’s first training camp where he is the de facto wide receiver one. In a press conference after practice, quarterback Derek Carr had this to say on the young players mentality:
“Coming into this year he knows,” Carr said, “It’s like in his head ‘every ball is mine’, every play that’s called he should feel like I’m getting that done.”
This is a huge opportunity for Chris Olave, and he needs to be full steam ahead. The league already knows who he is, but if he gets enough momentum going, he could enter the new year as one of the NFC’s top receivers. He was drafted in 2022 to prepare for this moment - Collapse

Carr opened his post-training-camp press conference with questions about Alvin Kamara. “He’s been absolutely amazing,” Carr says. “He showed up to camp, he’s been here, which I think anytime, you know, it’s not a secret (Kamara’s contract situation). Anytime the player says ‘You know what. You know how I feel...I’m going to show up for my team and I'm going to show up for my organization.’ I think that speaks to the front office more than anything.” Carr continues to praise the veteran running back on his work ethic. “He goes to work. 2 DAYS AGO - Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports
The team hopes for significant defensive line improvements next season. Going into the 2023 offseason, the defensive line was one of the weakest position groups on the New Orleans Saints. The run defense was lacking any progression, the pass rush was seeing minimal sack numbers, and high-potential players were disappointing. With the breakout of Carl Granderson and the offseason additions of Bryan Bresee, Khalen Saunders, and Nathan Shepherd, the Saints were able to improve the defensive line. During last season, the defensive line was able to produce better performances in regard to the run defense and pass rush, but it still was not enough.
Going into the 2024 offseason, the Saints still wanted to improve the run defense and sack numbers, but to a smaller degree in contrast to the 2023 offseason. In the draft, the Saints drafted defensive tackle Khristian Boyd. Although Boyd may not see the field much in 2024, he has high potential to greatly Collapse

What is their take on the Saints potential win total? On Tuesday, the NFL posted a YouTube video reviewing the New Orleans Saints 2023 season, free agency additions, and expectations for the upcoming season. In the 10-minute video filled with snarky remarks, the commentary ended with the NFL’s ceiling and floor predictions for the Saints in 2024.
Floor 7-10
To determine wins and losses, the NFL used New Orleans’ win total according to Caesars Sportsbook set at 7.5. If a team were set with a lower win total, the Saints would be rewarded a win. In this scenario, the Saints go 7-10 with wins against the Carolina Panthers x2, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Denver Broncos, the New York Giants, the Washington Commanders, and the Las Vegas Raiders.
